PREOP RN Job Responsibilities: Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization

  • Using comprehensive assessment skills the nurse coordinates, analyzes and centralizes preoperative information and present this clinical data to the Staff Anesthesiologist. This information is obtained from a variety of sources, including: patient interview, patient history and physical, verification and validation of data and review of patient's past surgical history and experiences with anesthesia.
  • Recognizes common medical problems and when to seek assistance for further evaluation.
  • Uses algorithms for preoperative management of patients with: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension, Cardiovascular Disease, Aortic Stenosis , Carotid Disease, Cardiac Stent Management, Pulmonary Hypertension, COPD, Acute Pain, Elevated Liver Function Test, Alcohol Abuse, Chronic Pain.
  • Determines patient's current functional capacity. Identifies specific anesthetic issues (difficult intubation, malignant hyperthermia, latex allergy, Jehovah Witness, pseudo-cholinesterase deficiency, etc.).
  • Determines when laboratory data are abnormal and when to consult staff.
  • Uses knowledge to determine and instruct patient on which medications need to be taken or held prior to surgery, as well as which medications need to be taken on the day of surgery.
  • Identifies medications likely to adversely interact with anesthetic agents.
  • Discusses various anesthetic options and addresses patient questions and concerns.
  • Documents findings in a concise and logical manner in Epic progress notes.
  • Facilitates patient care during emergencies.
  • Provides perioperative health education to patients and their families.
  • Evaluates learning needs and abilities of patient's and their families, adapting educational information to meet these needs.
  • Acts as a patient advocate and liaison between patient and m embers of the health care team.
  • Communicates and directs patient concerns to the physician and/or the appropriate resource.
PACU RN Job Responsibilities: Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization
  • Implements and monitors patient care plans.
  • Monitors, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Monitors and documents patient's condition and effectiveness and timeliness of care and/or interventions; evaluates, updates and revises plan of care to facilitate achievement of planned and expected outcomes.
  • Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with approved nursing protocol.
  • Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.
  • Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
  • Assesses educational needs of the patient and significant others considering cultural issues and other special concerns.
  • Provides teaching and educational material as appropriate.
  • Validates and documents patient and family understanding of teaching.
  • Maintains professional growth and development through ongoing formal and informal education and clinical nursing study.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Education: Graduate from an accredited s chool of professional nursing.
Experience: Minimum one year RN experience required in same day surgery required

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current state licensure as an RN. BCLS required. ACLS required for Critical Care areas.

Physical Requirements: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patient, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids.

Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of forcefrequently , and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
