Qualifications: Master's Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Health Science or a related field. Graduation from a Physician Assistant Program approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Certification from the National Commission for Certification by Physician Assistants (NCCPA). New Jersey Licensed from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Advisory committee. Prior experience in clinical medicine is preferred. In the case of a new graduate, they may be considered under the condition that he/she successfully takes and passes the Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants and the New Jersey License examination from the State Board of Medical Examiners-Physician Assistant Advisory Committee on the first available date following his/her graduation. All requirements must be met prior to employment with the ! Rutgers University.
Responsibilities: The prim! ary purpose of the Physician Assistant- Surgical position is to assist in the direct care of neurological surgery patients while under the direct supervision of a licensed physician. Predominantly assists, manages and supports Neurological Surgery staff at affiliated hospital(s). The primary focus of this position is patient care at one of the Department's clinical affiliate hospitals. The physician assistant will be dedicated to full service clinical support of Neurological Surgery staff including pre-operative, intra-operative and post-operative assistance for general Neurological Surgery and specialty services. The physician assistant will provide assistance, management and support of Neurological Surgery staff in the inpatient service, emergency department and office setting for operative and non-operative activities as well as providing primary in-house and unrestricted call coverage.
