Summary

This position represents the Eye Bank in its interactions with professional constituents that relate to clinic! al operation issues and needs. This is accomplished by providing support services to a clinical infrastructure that enables the suitable recovery of tissue for transplant and research, obtaining donor medical information in a timely manner, and successful distribution of tissue for transplant and research.

We are looking for an exceptional candidate who is passionate, driven yet flexible, confident in managing projects, comfortable sharing opinions while being respectful of others. Strong analytical, critical thinking, inter-personal, presentation and communication skills required. Bachelors degree in health care related field required; eye bank clinical operations experience desired. Strong customer service orientation, with experience in effectively addressing, negotiating and resolving issues with constituents as they arise. Ability to respond appropriately and effectively to changing circumstances and priorities. Ability to analyze and integrate information fro! m relevant sources and make appropriate decisions. Able to rem! ain composed under stress, handle responses to criticism tactfully and take responsibility for delivering on organizational commitments.

Major Position Duties and Responsibilities

Represent the eye bank in professional constituent development, education and support services.

Work in partnership with eye bank technical, quality and distribution staff to address and develop solutions to challenges that involve professional constituents. Expected collaboration with other eye bank staff to include:

Follow up with professional constituents on recovery issues addressed

Follow up with surgeons and/or medical institutions on distribution and/or

delivery issues

Development of corrective actions.

Ensure that the highest quality protocols are in place with professional constituents for recovery and distribution of tissue for transplant and research by analyzi! ng related data and monitoring established benchmarks.

Educate professional constituents on practice and principles related to eye donation and transplantation.

Provide assistance to professional constituents to ensure collaborative and cooperative efforts with Midwest Eye-Banks, regarding donation and transplant issues, are in compliance with state, federal, and other standards or requirements.

May function as the subject matter expert for assigned professional constituent groups for advising fellow professional relations staff in servicing this group throughout their geographical region, depending on subsidiary's staffing model.

Participate in the planning and implementation of special professional constituent events.

Collaborate with Midwest Eye-Bank's Communications Department to develop content for various means of mass communication related to promoting services, enriching relationships and keeping professional constituents! informed of current clinical issues.

Attend conferences and o! ther educational opportunities to advance skills and knowledge related to client relations.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Professional Constituent activities described:
Hospitals or Medical Institution staff

Support the development of protocols for referral and recovery of eye tissue.

Including post mortem care, obtaining medical records, consent methods/procedures, proper facilities, multi-tissue donor coordination, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Conditions of Participation requirements and other donation protocols as needed.

Support the development of protocols for receipt and tracking of tissues received for transplant in compliance with The Joint Commission, FDA, et al.

Ensure that written agreements and contracts are maintained.

Establish and maintain relationships with administrative, nursing, social

service/p! astoral care, laboratory, security, medical records, and public relations

staff.

Provide donation education and promote advocacy for donation.

Funeral Directors

Address recovery coordination issues.

Seek support in donation matters, including locating or contacting NOK and

promoting or advocating eye donation.

Address post recovery issues.

Provide donation education and promote advocacy for donation.

Medical Examiner and Coroners

Support the development of protocols for referral and recovery of eye tissue.

Address recovery coordination issues, reimbursement...

Support the development of protocols for obtaining both preliminary and final

autopsy results.

Seek support in donation matters, including locating or contacting NOK,

promoting or advocating eye donation.

Keep contact information up to date.

OPO and Tissue Banks
Support the development of referral protocols and address referral ! issues.

Develop recovery protocols and address recovery issues.

Educate agency on eye bank practice.

Plan and develop interagency collaboration with mutual constituents.

Surgeons/Surgical Staff

Promote Midwest Eye-Banks services.

Establish relations and provide education to surgical staff.

Identify and engage local non-users and maintain established relationships.

Perform periodic surveys to assess quality of service provided and identify unmet

needs.

Professional Constituent activities described continued:
Researchers and Research Institutions

Work with researcher to develop protocol to meet research tissue requirements.

Identify any needed support of specialized processing for the provision of

research tissue.

Update researcher contact information

Identify and engage local non-users and maintain established relationships.
Evaluate Midwest Eye-Banks service provided and identify unmet needs.

Identify and report back medical training tissue needs.

Identify potential collaboration opportunities.

Background Required

BS in health care related field. Health care and eye bank clinical operations experience desired. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks at one time. Cordial demeanor. Ability to analyze data to determine actions and achieve expected outcomes. Ability to multi-task while being self-directed is essential. Good problem solving skills and customer service skills are essential in this position. Ability to look at the big picture and experience/talent for making presentations. Valid driver's license.

Work Environment

Work is performed in normal office setting with frequent short and long distance travel. Use of own vehicle is required when traveling within service area. Ro! utine use of computer, cell phone and fax.
