Johnson & Johnson's Global Surgery Group is recruiting a Medical Director, Surgical Care "Wound Closure" located in Somerville, NJ.

The Global Surgery Group develops and markets products within the following businesses: Ethicon Surgical Care, Ethicon Biosurgery, Biosense Webster, Cordis, Ethicon Energy, Ethicon Gynecare, Mentor, Acclarent. Technologies and products of the businesses serve the clinical needs in wound closure and tissue repair, intra-operative and postoperative hemostats, electrophysiology, cardiovascular care, laparoscopic instrumentation, woman's health, aesthetic medicine and minimally invasive ENT surgeries.

The Medical Director, Surgical Care "Wound Closure", will have global medical affairs responsibility in support of the wound closure platform of the Surgical Care business within the Johnson & Johnson Global Surgery Group. The position will report to the Group Director, Medical Affairs for Ethicon Surgical Care! .

The Medical Director, participates as part of globa! l Surgical Care Medical Affairs staff to achieve the strategic goals and activities of the function, which consist of external facing (driving deeper and broader customer engagement; WW customer insight generation) and internal facing (safety/surveillance, clinical strategy, pipeline engagement, compliance). Provides support of the New Product Development and New Business Development teams by providing expert medical and scientific input, including conceptual and hands-on product evaluation, and clinical research perspectives. Act as a strategic partner with medical evidence generation colleagues in Preclinical Research, Clinical Development, and Health Economics and Reimbursement teams to develop and execute global strategies for evidence generation for new and existing products in order to support regulatory approval/clearance, health technology assessment, customer access, and post-marketing support.

They provide scientific and medical expertise required for con! ception and high quality design, execution, analysis, and reporting of clinical research in assigned areas. Clinical research will be required both for primarily regulatory purposes and for publication, to achieve market access, lifecycle management and to inform optimal practice. Provide expert medical support to Regulatory Affairs, Communications, Legal, and Quality/Risk Management/ Product Safety teams. Accountable for medical input into risk management plans and failure mode analysis during product development and safety signal detection and post-market surveillance post-launch. Provide scientific and medical accountability for management of requests for Educational Grants, requests for Scientific Information, and requests for Investigator Initiated Research Grants

Provide support to commercial teams by providing medical and scientific expertise to drive optimal business strategic direction and tactical business activities, including product launches, key scien! tific meetings, relationship management with leading research physician! s and medical delivery system or government decision makers, critical evaluation of current literature and competitive activity, and in other domains where medical and scientific expertise is required.

Qualifications

An MD/DO from an accredited school is required for this position. Training in a surgical or related discipline is required. Prior clinical experience is required. Board Certification (prior or current) is preferred. Clinical research experience in medical devices, biologics, or drugs is preferred. Experience in support of global regulatory submissions for medical devices, biologics, or drugs are preferred, (including PMA/BLA/NDA and/or their global counterparts). Experience in medical safety surveillance (drugs, biologics, or devices) and/or quality improvement preferred.

Demonstrated leadership skills, mentoring skills and the ability to make quick decisions are required. Excellent communication skills, including written communicatio! n (e.g., peer review publication) and oral presentation of scientific materials and research results. The ability to write original scientific documents such as clinical summaries, regulatory filings, investigator brochures, and internal reports and scientific publications are required. The ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with many levels of employees of various disciplines within various departments is required.

Ability to build successful relationships with key opinion leaders globally and investigators in key business areas is required. Excellent people management, public speaking, communication, leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and reasoning skills are required. Teaching skills, including both oral and hands-on education of health care professionals and company employees on scientific and medical issues surrounding company products and on optimal safe and effective use of products is required. Travel up to 25% is required.
